Sleepy Owls

Sleepy Owls

I haven’t had a good look at the baby owls in the nest along the creek west of Denver yet this season — until yesterday.

Two baby owls peer at the viewer from the safety of their nest 20 feet up in a leafless tree. The image is just a little fuzzy in places because there was a branch in the way.

At least two — yay! I have been told there is a third baby, but I couldn’t confirm it. But they’re huge! All I had seen until yesterday were balls of possible fluff.

But where is mama owl?

I turned around and there she was, directly across the creek in a tree. Sound asleep. Evidently there isn’t enough room in the nest with the rambunctious babies for her to get a good day’s sleep.

Large Great Horned Owl perched on a branch high above the viewer.

Sleep well, mama! You’re doing a great job!
