Dipper is Back

Dipper is Back

It’s been a bit since I’ve posted, I know. But remember those hummingbird photos I was having so much fun with? Turns out that whipping the camera around to catch the little guys gave me a bad case of tennis elbow. Who knew?

This morning was the first in months where I didn’t have pain doing everyday tasks like brushing my teeth. So what did I do? Grabbed my camera and headed to the nearby greenbelt to take photographs!

I wanted to see if the American dipper was back in the creek. Yup. It was there, wading in the fast moving water.

I’m really pleased (and rather surprised) at how clear the above photo came out. It was an overcast morning, and there just wasn’t much light with which to shoot.

For the first time since the Dipper was pointed out to me 18 months ago, it was going completely under the water. Not diving — just walking along and submerging. Above, it’s just coming up from under the surface.

Above, it’s caught a little water critter in the tip of its beak…

…which it tossed back to swallow. Yum.
